Description:
My older brother and I were living at or near the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. We had to do our laundry after business hours. We could do laundry in the museum, but there were only agitators, not washing machines. The agitators also resembled those machines for wringing out your swimsuits in locker rooms.
We had left ALL of our dirty clothes ALL over the front steps of the museum. No one stole our clothes – this was surprising. I’d also left my wallet out with the clothes, on the front steps of the museum, and no one stole it.
People were trying to take our agitator, though, like in an apartment or dorm laundry room, and they were upset that we had too many clothes.

Hmmm. It sounds like you feel like you don't have the resources to adequately do something that you really feel like you need to do. That might be what the laundry is a symbol for. The rest is puzzling. I wonder what the museum is a symbol for?
