Work Site Crowding

I arrived at work and went to my desk, but someone else was in my place. I was told that the company was expanding and that I was to be in another building. I searched for my team, and found a couple of them scattered in different places. I wondered why management was making that change when just last week they were emphasizing team work within the department. I located a few of my desk items, but was still missing my computer and monitor. I had to run through the rain, ducking under dripping awnings to go to yet another building. I only saw people I did not know, most of them under the age of 30, and very involved with chatting, but trying to look like they were working. I found my computer and laid my wet jacket across the chair at the tiny desk. The monitor was three feet above my eye level, and all the cables were missing. I stood up to move the monitor down, and found my chair trapped by the chairs on either side of me, the occupants unconcerned by my problem. I saw that my jacket had a muddy footprint on the sleeve from the shoe of the girl chatting away next to me. My boss’s boss came by to see if I had my work completed. I hold her that I could not work in such cramped and noisy conditions. I picked up my monitor and jacket and went home.
